Playing Mom during the Power Outage

Being a mom is quite overwhelming and thus the reason you find so many blogs cover topics to do with moms. The role of a mom exceeds in almost all sub-category there is, right from cleaning the house to laundry duty, the underpaid chef to the taxi driver. As a matter f fact, being a mom is vast, so you can imagine how stressful it can be during a blackout.

Power outages can be quite an issue with most lasting a couple of hours while others could span for days which is why you need to be prepared. Here is how.

Backup Power
While batteries are essential; they will not help you make the transition from being a mom to a blackout mom easily. It is here that the generator guide comes in handy. The generator may not be able to power your entire house, but it could power your fridge freezer, a few lights, the microwave, a heater, and the TV for six hours a day on just a gallon of gas. You don’t have to panic with a generator in place.

Non-Perishable Foods
It doesn’t mean that you will need to fill your underground bunker with canned food, but a selection of non-perishable and ready-to-eat foods is going to making your cooking easy. The only thing that your family need to remain comfortable is heat and food, so the next time you go grocery shopping, be sure to but enough canned food for your entire kitchen shelf. Buy canned fruits vegetables, meat , instant coffee, soups, beans and whatever else you can think of including fun stuff like dips and chips.

Light it Up: the allure of a house lit by candles as a storm rages on outside is truly romantic . It is, however, unrealistic, inefficient and hazardous as many house fires are started by candles lit during blackouts. Instead, you can select flashlights and camping lanterns and several batteries. As long as you have them hidden in a place that is practical, then you are fine. If you have light then you have a chance for some fun, whether it is reading, playing board games or a game of hide and seek.

Cozy Up
With the heat gone, you will find your home not being the chipper place it once was. It is for this reason that you need to have extra blankets and quilts so that you can all snuggle when the nights get cold. If you can find sleeping bags in your garage, then grab them too; anything that will hold the cold at bay is going to be a big morale booster.
